About the Role

An established and diversified organization operating across retail, hospitality, logistics, and marine services is seeking an experienced Financial Controller to lead its Finance and Accounts Department. This pivotal role focuses on financial analysis, forecasting, budgeting, compliance, and operational leadership to support a growing enterprise in a dynamic environment.


Position Summary

The Financial Controller will manage all aspects of the finance function with a focus on improving efficiency, enhancing reporting accuracy, and modernizing systems. The successful candidate will ensure regulatory compliance, foster innovation, and provide timely financial insights that support strategic and operational decision-making.


Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Department Oversight

  • Lead, mentor, and build capacity within the finance team.

  • Foster a performance-driven and collaborative team culture.

  • Design and improve department workflows to enhance speed, accuracy, and accountability.

Financial Reporting & Compliance

  • Deliver timely and accurate monthly and annual financial statements.

  • Ensure compliance with local tax regulations and International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).

  • Oversee company stocktakes and coordinate with tax consultants and internal stakeholders.

Cost Management & Operational Efficiency

  • Analyze expenditures across departments to identify inefficiencies.

  • Manage budgeting processes and ensure robust cash flow forecasting.

  • Track financial KPIs and provide strategic insights to leadership.

  • Supervise product and service costings and maintain accurate price lists.

Technology & System Improvement

  • Identify and implement cost-effective digital tools for finance functions.

  • Promote automation in reconciliations, invoicing, and reporting.

  • Collaborate with IT/POS teams to integrate secure and streamlined systems.

Business Partnering & Strategy

  • Partner with Sales, Retail, Buying, and Operations teams to support planning and execution.

  • Establish performance tracking frameworks for team leads.

  • Deliver financial models and analyses for strategic projects and investment decisions.



Experience Requirements:

Qualifications & Experience

  • CPA or CA qualification required.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business (Master’s preferred).

  • At least 7 years’ experience in financial management roles.

  • 3–5 years’ experience in a senior finance role within retail, FMCG, or similarly high-volume sectors.

  • Proven experience with system upgrades, automation, and modern financial platforms.

  • Strong working knowledge of financial software such as MYOB, Xero, QuickBooks, or ERP systems.

  • High proficiency in Excel and financial modeling is essential.

Remuneration

  • Salary range: AUD $40,000 – AUD $60,000 per annum

  • Final package will depend on qualifications, experience, and performance track record.
